LOWER LeveL CLASSES

At Momentum Music & Dance Academy, the Lower School Dance Classes are beginning levels for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners .

Grown Up & Me Movement Program

(Ages 18 mo. to 3 years)
In this class, grown-ups and their toddlers explore elements of dance and practice basic dance skills. In a flexible and playful atmosphere, props and music are used to enhance exploration. Parents come away from this class with a clear understanding of concepts of dance and ideas for dancing with their children at home. Toddlers gain self esteem and experiential knowledge of dance skills and concepts.

Joy Of Movement / Creative Movement

(Ages 3-5 years)
Pre Ballet This class is designed to introduce the preschool child to the world of dance and movement. Students work to establish body awareness, muscle development, flexibility, coordination, and basic loco motor skills. Explorations of dance concepts (i.e. use of space, shapes, pathways, rhythms, etc.) help to develop each child's creativity and problem solving skills. A variety of props and music will be used. The atmosphere is warm and friendly; encouraging cooperation and a positive self image.

Children who are age 3 by Jan 1st should register for Joy of Movement. Four and five year olds should register for Creative Movement. Basic tap elements are also introduced.

Pre-Ballet and Pre-Ballet / Tap

(Ages 6-8)
This class continues working on all the elements of Creative Movement, but also introduces the basic ballet positions and preparatory steps. It focuses more attention on musicality, phrasing, terminology, and ballet etiquette in a positive and encouraging environment.

Irish Dance

(Pre-Irish thru Level I)
For children with little or no previous experience of Irish Dance. This class will provide the basic steps for soft shoe dances such as the beginner reel, light jig and single jig while developing self-esteem, discipline and social interaction. In addition, students will work to build muscle development, coordination, rhythm and music skills as well as Irish dance technique.

Storybook Acting (Musical Theater)

(Ages Pre-K and Kindergarten)
Storybook Acting uses physical warm-up, character exploration, and acting games to delve into dramatic performance. The activities lead up to the reading of a special children’s book. The text is then performed by the students with special attention paid to the characters in addition to the narrative. The class is typically wrapped up with an art activity which allows for personal reflection. Some examples of stories used in Story Acting are: "Olivia", "Curious George", and "The Snow Child".
